EL Journal — Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of EL Journal (the "Service"), operated by Edgewise Labs ("we", "us", "our"), an unincorporated business based in Canada. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. (EL Expenses, our separate household product, has its own Terms of Service.)
The service
EL Journal is a trading journal app. It imports your closed trades — either automatically through a read-only broker connection or from a CSV file you upload — and lets you review, annotate, and analyze them across a dashboard, calendar, and analytics, with an optional AI trading coach that gives feedback on your history. EL Journal is a record-keeping and analysis tool; it does not execute trades.
Your account
Sign-in is handled by Clerk. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for all activity under your account. You agree to provide accurate information and to be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction. Let us know promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
Broker connections
When you connect a broker (for example, Tradovate or NinjaTrader), you authorize EL Journal to read your closed trades only, through the broker's secure authorization screen. This access is strictly read-only: EL Journal never places or cancels orders, moves funds, or touches your open positions. You can disconnect a broker at any time from within the app or from the broker's own connected-apps settings. Your use of each broker remains subject to that broker's own terms.
Subscriptions and billing
The Service offers a free plan and paid plans. Paid subscriptions are billed through Stripe on a recurring basis — monthly or yearly, depending on the plan you choose — and renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel any time; your paid access continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable. Prices and plan features may change, and we will give notice of material changes before they affect you.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to store unlawful content.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its infrastructure.
- Connect a broker account you are not authorized to access, or upload data you do not have the right to share.
- Resell or provide the Service to third parties without our permission.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
Your data
Your trades and journal content remain yours, and you can export or delete them at any time. Our handling of your personal information is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
Not financial advice
EL Journal is a journaling and analytics tool for reviewing your own trading. It is not financial, investment, tax, or trading advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any instrument. Any analytics, statistics, or AI-coach output are for informational and educational purposes only — you are solely responsible for your own trading decisions. Trading involves substantial risk of loss and is not suitable for every investor; past performance is not indicative of future results.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that a broker connection or import will always succeed, or that imported trade data or AI-coach feedback will always be accurate — you are responsible for reviewing the figures the Service records against your own broker records.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Edgewise Labs will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service — including any trading decisions you make. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. If you continue to use the Service after changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
